Years ago, someone pointed out how frequently people say 'Hey Guys--', referring to a mixed gender group. I dropped it from my lexicon and now only ever say 'Hey Folks'
However, that refers to a group setting. I can't think of a 'folks' equivalent for just one person. It would sound weird to say, 'Have a good day, person.' As I work with more and more trans kids, I've become more aware of all the unnecessary ways we use gender. When someone wishes you a good day, why is it important to include anything about gender at all?
Still, your examples do sound annoying. Interesting read.
