I graduated from high school in 2000 and a comment my mom has often made is that our class is the only one to have an almost computer-free childhood followed by an entire career based on computers. I remember using those CD-roms that would come in the mail offering minutes of free dial-up internet to complete my college applications. What a different time! I'm a high school teacher now and every year, I love marking time by talking to my students about what defined their childhoods. They have no concept of life before smartphones and wifi. Sometimes I tell them stories about lining up by the payphone to call our parents for a ride home from soccer practice and they look at me wide-eyed like I'm a ghost from the past.
Time is a funny thing! Cheers to Y2K!
